Haven't officially announced to you all on here yet, been a little busy :)

Eleanor Rebekah Rigby was born September 11th, 2011 at 4:28 AM. At home, just like I wanted. She weighed 7 lbs .8 oz and measured 21 inches long.

We love our new little girl and have all been adapting well to the new change. Mommy and baby are doing well and recovering. Jonah loves his baby sister.

The time has come

And still no baby. It's officially my due date and nothing's really going on. Oh well. When she didn't come early, like Jonah, I kinda gave up waiting. Babies come when they come. I hope it happens soon, just because I want to meet her and hold her. I want Daddy and Jonah to meet her too. For Jonah to finally understand that there IS a baby in my belly, like I've been telling him. Wish me luck! Hopefully not too much longer. But she's gonna stick around in there as long as she needs to. I love you, baby Eleanor. Can't wait!

Derek and I have been researching vaccines and whether or not we want to vaccinate this next baby, or at least be able to pick and choose which ones we want. And when expressing this to my current pediatrician, I was basically told that I should find someone else. Which sucks. So I'm on the look out right now for someone new. I've had a few recommendations and not so long to find one. Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because in my most recent Dr. Mercola email, they addressed this directly. So I wanted to share this article with you guys, if you were interested.

My sneaky, clever husband planned an outing for me with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to go to the splash pad today so he could get started on painting the baby room. And they went along with it and no one told me! But it was amazing. I love surprises. He was so tired by the time I got home, that I had to finish, but I don't mind painting. He did all the boring taping and moving things out of the room. The play date this morning was so good and I had such a good time with them and so did Jonah. He loves his cousins Rocky and Daisy. He talks about them all the time, about how they're his friends and how much fun he has playing with them.

There's obviously still a lot to do with the room, but it should only take another day to do it. I haven't quite figured out the ideal layout yet, but it'll just take some adjusting. I'm so excited! I'll keep you posted.

Grumpy Gus

Do you ever just have those grumpy days? Where you're not quite sure what got you on that path, and you really have no good reason to feel that way, but you just spend the day grumpy and somewhat unproductive. That was today. The first part of the day was nice and pleasant and spent having fun at the Ogden Farmers Market, but for some reason after that, it was grumpy times. So for anyone who had to deal with that grumpiness, I'm sorry. I promise I'll be happier tomorrow.

American West Heritage Center

Grandpa had a work party last night at the American West Heritage Center in Logan, UT. Grandma was there, along with Brandon, Marci, Rocky and Daisy, Gavin, Hayden, Indee and Great Grandpa Rigby too. It was nice to go with a small group of people and avoid any big crowds. We were served a delicious dinner of chicken, scalloped potatoes, salad, fruit, corn on the cob, our choice of biscuits or rolls (I chose a biscuit of course), lemonade and for dessert: Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler with homemade whipped cream on top. And homemade macaroni and cheese for the kiddies. Jonah didn't eat his, so I got to taste that too. We had cotton candy and snow cones too. We witnessed a gun fight where Grandpa got blown out of the water, got to ride the train, Jonah went on the pony rides, and was really excited about all the animals. Goats, chickens, a donkey, pheasants, and sheep.

Passions

I was thinking last night while trying to get some sleep and unsuccessfully counting sheep, "what am I passionate about?" Derek and I had this same conversation just a few days prior, which is probably why it was fresh in my mind.

The conclusion I've come to is that I am passionate about doing the best by my family. Whether it's the way my children come into this world, or making delicious meals that we all enjoy (tonight was biscuits and gravy),

or learning skills that will help around the house (right now it's sewing). These are good answers to me. There is nothing wrong with aspiring to be a good wife, mother, and all that comes with that. Teacher, chef, housekeeper, clown, singer, public speaker, designer, etc. My passions inspire me. To be better, to try harder. I have quite a role to live up to. I have the most precious cargo entrusted to me. Our Heavenly Father's children. And he wants them back someday, so I have to do my best to make sure they get there. Wish me luck.

Pregnancy Progress

I know I said that I would be keeping my blog updated with all my new findings and birth information and I guess I've done a very poor job. I'm not keeping my promise. I guess it's because I really feel like there's not a lot new to share. My pregnancy is going about the same as last time. I am really blessed and very lucky that I don't get sick and I feel so well. Actually the question, "How are you feeling?", which as all pregnant woman know is the first question you get asked as soon as you walk in the door or talk to someone on the phone, is getting really, really old. I don't know what to say to them. I'm in my third trimester, morning sickness (which was hardly ever there anyway) has been gone for a long time now. It's just normal pregnancy discomforts, back pain, Braxton-Hicks contractions (which I had my first of today), and all of those things I've been keeping at bay with yoga anyway.

Lately I've been looking for a lamaze class, hypnobirthing, something to teach me how to relieve my pain and discomfort in the labor process. But I waited too long. Most of those classes are a few weeks anyway and I honestly don't have that much time anymore from when they start to when they finish. I was able to find a really helpful DVD at the library though. It is definitely geared toward later in pregnancy if you are an experienced yogi, but good for someone looking to start yoga in their pregnancy. Very basic, kinda slower paced. For me, it's not enough by itself, but it's a good supplement. And since I'm no longer able to keep up at regular yoga so much anymore, it really helps. And it has good birthing yoga tips. So I've decided to forfeit classes and just use the information I already have and will learn in the next 9 (I know, single digit!) weeks.

I've also been participating in a local birth group. They also have a blog with a lot of good information, including birth stories, which are so inspiring.

I'll try and keep up more with the information in the next few weeks, but I think the best information I'll have to share is my birth story.

There is proof! I did end up going and it was so much fun! There better be a 2012! I think my favorite photo is the group shots with Jonah photo bombing them. I got to meet new people, meet others in real life (made them a little more real to me, rather than just blog stalking them), and scored some really awesome stuff, which you'll get to see later. Maybe much later, considering some of it doesn't quite fit yet. But it will! I got lost and ended up getting there late and had to leave early to get the car back to Derek for work. So I was only there for 45 mins, so I didn't get as much time as I had wanted. So 2012 will be better! Better planning for sure. Maybe a baby sitter. And if you go to this post of mine, you'll get a list of all the other bloggers who were there. I recommend at least glancing at all their blogs.

My husband and I teach Sunday School for the youth in our ward and in today's lesson was a verse from the New Testament. And it just made me so happy to read and feel so right in my decision to have a baby naturally.

St. John 16:21: A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

And of course this doesn't only apply to having a boy, but just the joy she feels to have this child and the immediate love you feel for this little miracle. I mean, there has been so much research and study done that shows that having a baby naturally increases your bonding and your success at breastfeeding, which also increases the bonding with your baby. It's just such a wonderful thing to know that I made the choice to do it the right way.

Found this through another fashion blog I follow and I kinda want to go. But it's hard to look at non-maternity clothes and gauge what size you may be after you have the baby and how long it would take you to fit into it again. And Provo is kind of a trek for me. It's over an hour away. Also, a few of the fashion bloggers I follow are going to be there, and it would be cool to say to them "Hi! I love your blog and your style. Do you have any tips for me?"

I'm trying to compile a playlist of songs which would be good to listen to while in labor. I really have no idea how to do this. Do I want relaxing, calming songs for the whole labor process and more upbeat music for the pushing? I'm just taking in any suggestions I can.

Also, today when we dropped Jonah off at nursery, one of the leaders says "Oh, he got a haircut. How adorable! He looks like a mushroom!"

Life resolution

At the beginning of the year I made my New Years Resolution like everyone else. It wasn't to lose so many pounds, or to learn to cook something really well. It was to stop talking about people behind their backs. I'm not like a huge gossiper or anything (in my own opinion), but when I had frustrations, I would go to another person and just vent and that would bring all the bad feelings up to the surface. And I was doing pretty well too. I wasn't even saying anything to Derek in my frustrations. But I had an experience the other day that made me realize that not saying something wasn't good enough. Because I was still thinking these thoughts, just not expressing them. And in a way that could be worse to just let it build up inside and simmer. So I realized it needed to be more, be bigger! And it could definitely not just be this years resolution. It needed to be a life resolution. I realized I needed to find a little bit of love for everyone. Especially those I felt wronged by or always found irritation toward. Because in doing so it would be that much easier to say nothing, because if I found that little bit of love and saw the good qualities in them, I wouldn't think mean thoughts to begin with. This realization brought tears to my eyes. Or maybe it was the crying that started it, I don't know. But being like Christ is our main goal in life, isn't it? And we know that we can not reach perfection until after this life, but it doesn't give us an excuse to not try. That would be giving up. And once that's done, it's so hard to get back on track again. If I can find that little bit of live for those people, I can find more love for them over time, making being like Christ that much more realistic.

Simple days

I love days like today. Just easy, relaxing days. Days where you get things done, but you still make time to enjoy yourself. I've been feeling in need of social interaction and got a nice little dose today. Started off easy. This morning I baked cheesecake bars for Derek's brothers Boy Scout court of honor tomorrow, then Jonah took a nap, and after that we just enjoyed ourselves outside. Got out of the house on a non-rainy day this week. Played at the park in our backyard and just as we were walking home, daddy woke up and joined us. We finally used our $25 Outback Giftcard from christmas and did dinner and then spent the rest of the evening on a walk, visiting with our friends and neighbors from the ward. I love spontaneous visits. I'm so excited for the warmer weather to allow for them again!

So really, nothing new to post, but I just really enjoyed the simple enjoyment of our day. Not much was done, but it doesn't feel wasted.

P.S. Excited for cousin's homecoming tomorrow to taste the new cheesecake recipe I used!

Anxious: The Sequel

I just thought I should mention, that I'm not just excited about the decorating and prep process of this baby, although to have that in order and done is a huge comfort. I'm just excited for the challenge of another baby. I'm so used to toddler Jonah now that I sometimes think I won't know what to do with an infant again. I'm excited for the challenge of a baby of a different gender. For trying cloth diapers this time. I'm excited for the challenge of having care over 2 babies, instead of just the one. Figuring out the kinks and figuring out the balance. I'm excited to start this baby on a more regular routine early on, which I didn't do with Jonah.

I know there's a lot more to a new baby than cute clothes, decorating a nursery, and baby showers. And I am ANXIOUS and excited for every aspect of it.

I know I'm just shy of 6 months, but I cannot wait to meet this little girl inside of me. My nesting has been going crazy, so Derek and I have been cleaning and organizing, having a yard sale, dropping lots of things at the DI, and listing things on KSL and Craigslist. Too bad we have to wait to paint until grandma can take Jonah for the day. Found the best color. It's almost like lime sherbet. That was one of my favorite parts of being pregnant with Jonah was making the room his. It is the only time I have painted in my home since moving here 3 years ago. I want to paint EVERYTHING! but you can only do so much at a time. And since we've had to change rooms around to make space for 2 babies, I get to do it all over again. I've been getting books from the library, looking at blogs (especially this one) for inspiration.

I want to plan baby showers (which is allowed if your baby is a different gender), buy cloth diapers, get cute little girls clothes, all that. I've been looking for crochet patterns for bonnets and booties. I still have 17 weeks left to go and I just hope it goes by fast, because little girl, I can't wait to meet you.

But, on a good note, I'm happy to have the time to spend with Jonah before he is no longer an only child. He needs as much love as I can possibly give him.

Little Eleanor.
I kept getting a little girl vibe, but I didn't want to read too much into it, because I felt the same way with Jonah.

I'm excited. I know I said I really wanted another boy, but for the last week or so, I have really been thinking about how much fun it would be to have a girl. And just because it's not a brother, doesn't mean Jonah still can't have a buddy to play with. I can't wait to meet her. I hope she looks just like me, because Jonah looks just like Derek. And I want a mini-me.

Love you little girl. I hope the time passes quick so I can see you soon. We're all excited to meet you.

Update

It has been far too long since I've written anything. Here's the happs right now:

I am now 4 months (17 weeks) along. Went to the midwife just yesterday and heard the heartbeat, again. Every time I go in, I almost can't believe it. It's still in there, growing good, and it always makes me smile. I'm finally starting to show, just a little and am annoyingly in between normal pants and maternity. So since the weather has been gorgeous, I've been wearing plenty of elastic waistband skirt.

I keep being asked by everyone if I know what it is yet, but I won't find out for another month. My preference, which I also keep getting asked, is another little boy. Of course, I'll be happy with whatever, boy or girl. But if they're gonna ask, I'm gonna give my opinion.

It seems to be going by so fast. I can't believe I'm already 4 months along. Only 5 more to go. I really haven't taken any progress pictures yet, so hopefully next time I'll have a belly picture and not long after an ultrasound picture. Wish me luck!

Daddy took Jonah to breakfast this morning with grandpa and I'm supposed to be sleeping in, but I couldn't. So here's a birthday tribute post.

Happy Birthday, Jonah! You are 2 years old today! Here you are on the day you were born.

I can't believe how long ago that feels. You had the most beautiful dark hair. And your daddy documented everything they did in the hospital. And you can just hear the love in his voice whenever he speaks. And not too long after you turned into the toe-headed little boy you are today.

Relive

I think the best thing about having kids of your own, is being able to relive those things that fascinated you as a kid and to be able to share in their excitement. Jonah see's a train and says "there it goes!". He sees a horse and says "horse" and does the sign. So you get involved and you point out all these cool things to them that they get excited about! I mean, I say cool things, but they're actually pretty ordinary. Things you see everyday and haven't thought much about in years. But their joy and innocence and excitement just rubs off on you and you get to do it all over again. It's pretty incredible. And it's one of the reasons that this is the best job in the world.

Yes, the rumors are true. I am pregnant. (Yeah, I know, everyone always talks about me and what's going on in my life). Riglet number 2 is on the way. And this time around I'm doing it right. When I say right, I just mean for me. Home delivery, midwife. A real homebirth one this time, not a CNM. Malpractice doesn't allow them to do homebirths. Yes, I'm one of those. I am educating myself more this time too. I think every woman who plans on getting pregnant and having a baby should educate herself. Read up on it herself, along with getting information from your doctor. This is the most intense, changing experience your body will ever go through. You read reviews and do research when buying a car, why not when having a baby? I'm borrowing some fantastic books right now from a friend all about Creating Your Own Birth Plan and the pro's and con's of interventions in birth. (that books actually mostly biased toward homebirth and against unnecessary interventions). But the most important thing is for the woman to be able to decide what is going to work best for her and her baby. To educate herself and be able to decide that way. This homebirth thing is new for me too and I'm excited to see and experience the differences after having a hospital birth. I'll keep you all in the loop and up-to-date too. Yay for new experiences!

Strange dreams

I had the oddest dream last night. I had a dream that we had our baby, but it was like the size of my palm, but completely healthy. And our birthing center place was this room above a convenience store/sleazy diner in somewhere like Canada. And Derek and I were all on our own, no midwife, nothing. But the doctor (I'm not even using a doctor) came later, after we had showered, down the street, in some department store and had to walk back to our room in our towels. Which he was shocked at! And he treated the employees/waitresses like his nurses. Maybe they were. I don't know. But it was strange and interesting. But most of my dreams have been lately. I've had another dream a few times now, where I'm back in band and choir singing and playing my baritone. And I always wake up very happy.

I guess this is me announcing. Yes, we are pregnant. I am almost 12 weeks, so just about out of the 1st trimester. Can I use it as my excuse for totally slacking on my 30x30? I'm just not feeling it right now. I even tried to choose loose, comfy, concealing clothing. Oh well. I'll be doing it for awhile. Or I'll just quit. Depends on when I'll have to start wearing maternity. We'll see.

Kendi has done it again. Another 30 for 30 challenge. I took some notes from the last one and hopefully will be a little more successful this time. You'll see some repeats from last time, but I tried to choose a lot of different things this time around. Not that I've bought a whole bunch new clothes in the last month or so, just some oldies from my closet. Let it begin!

Rearranging

So we did it. Just decided this weekend to just do it. We have switched all the rooms around. And it is still utter chaos. We were only able to get the big things (furniture and the like) moved before we had to quit. Jonah's old room is now the office, our old room is now Jonah's, and the old office is now our room. I'm excited for the change and for the chance to reorganize and redecorate, to simplify and get rid of things we really don't need and now for Jonah to have a "big boy bed" to sleep in. When faced with having the put the crib back together, we just decided to convert it into the toddler bed. And so far so good. It means that Jonah decides that 6 AM is a good wake up time now and comes into our room, yelling our names and telling us he's "hungy". It's a good, fun thing though to take a new step with him and see him adapting so well to it. I'll post pictures as soon as the house is presentable to show. Going to Ikea in a few weeks to get Jonah's bday present, so we'll probably get some new things then to show too.

Christmas and the like

We had a wonderful christmas. Pretty much spent the entire weekend with family. I think we only went home to sleep for most of it. We opened our presents as a family on christmas eve and went over christmas morning so Jonah could help the kids open their presents.

Got this Frog from my parents. He loves giving his stuffed animals kisses.

With the New Year here, I have no resolutions. I'm just taking it easy, just in general trying to eat healthier and exercise better. Trying to take better care of myself.

These pictures really do not do it justice. It starts out all crazy sticky uppy and ends up flat, but sort of winged out to the side. In short:AWESOME! I really need to get some better pictures next time it happens. If there ever is a repeat.

So now that 30 for 30 is over, I haven't been posting everyday. Which now feels strange and foreign. But true to myself, I did wear t-shirts and jeans for about the first 3 days after finishing. And went shopping at Charlotte Russe to break the band. Got 4 items of clothing for <$20 during their Haul Sale. You should check it out. I've been very pleased with their clothes every time I shop there. Cute, good quality for the prices you pay. And their pants fit very true to size. Not much stretch at all, so they stay up! And if you've been reading you know I've had trouble with that lately. Here's some examples of the fantastic clothes I bought there the other day.

And there ain't no more! 30 is over and done! The first thing I'm going to wear is a t-shirt and jeans. That is if my jeans decide they want to fit. I just bought these a few weeks ago in the next size down (I know, you're not supposed to shop during. But I figured buying the same thing, but in a size that fit didn't count) and they're already driving me crazy and I hate having to pull up my pants every 2 minutes. I was never a girl who worried or noticed. They always seemed to fit before, so the stretch of Old Navy, Gap jeans was never a problem. But now I hate it! I just want to buy pants that fit when I buy them and continue to. I know the stretch is convenient sometimes, but I don't want to have to wash my pants everyday. Does anyone know of any good jeans that don't stretch or at least as much as my current ones do?

And only one more to go! There's a lot of pressure to do REALLY well on my last outfit. It would be funny just to pile everything on, but that's not really possible. Maybe I should just try for as many as I possibly can. Go out with a bang. I'm excited to get to the rest of the clothes in my closet. Like I said the other day, just really keep track of what I'm wearing from now on. Try and dress it up a little. Even if I'm just wearing t-shirts and jeans. Which is honestly my favorite style as it is. Ellen Page is my style icon. Simple, tomboyish, adorable. My kind of gal.

Today's outfit isn't really my style, but I'm just trying to get done. Right now I'm not super worried about it. Derek and I went a little crazy today while out looking for gifts and such. We bought another Wii controller at Costco, came with a nunchuk and the built in motion plus for only $50. That's $10 less if you were to buy them separately. Went to Savers and Big Lots looking for movies and books for other people, but just came home with stuff for ourselves. Whoops. But it's good stuff.

The inspiration for this outfit came from here. 4th one down, Dec 2nd 2010. But I think it probably works much better when you have a bump to hold it up. Mine kept slipping down all day, which got to be really obnoxious.

I kinda can't wait to wear all the rest of my clothes again, but continue to document the really good stuff. It'll keep me on my toes and help me to really think about what I'm putting on every day. Which will be a really fun challenge. Stoked

Tonight was Derek's work Christmas party, so we go. Free food, night out, possibility of winning prizes (cash cards. We didn't win any. Boo). I usually go just expecting to know one or 2 couples, neither of which we're super good friends with, but it's good to see them anyway. When we get there, our friends Scott and Erin have saved us seats next to them, across from another couple we don't even know. We start talking to them, just to say hi, make an acquaintance, and we have a lot in common! And it actually turns out that I was at BYU-I the same time as both of them! We have some of the same friends, were in the same circles and I even have pictures of him from the show where his band played! The world is huge and scary and unknown and there are billions of people in it, but then you just happen to run into someone you know, but also, don't. And one of my other BYU-I friends actually lives right around here too with his wife and family. We go and were bummed not to win any cash money, but gaining friendships is so much better and priceless. And it turns out they like us just as much as we like them because they want to hang out again tomorrow. Which we can't. But it's exciting to know that they're interested. So we'll make sure to get together with them soon.

I wore 2 outfits today. Changed for the christmas party. We'll just call them part A & B.

I've made a decision. Over christmas break, while Derek is home to keep Jonah entertained and happy, I'm going to crochet like a crazy person. Get good enough and get enough stuff finished to start an Etsy shop. The hat I made Derek has gotten some really good responses and I want to reap the benefits from that. And Derek promised to make my blog pretty and more professional looking over the break, so that people will like what they see when they come. Do you like what you see already? What would you change? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I just want to apologize for my crappy remix and lack of creativity through this whole thing. Should have chosen stronger items. But should probably own those items too. Oh well. Next time around. I've also had a lot going on in my life and not a lot of time to focus. Just found out that my car needs about $1200 in repairs. Like I mentioned before, just when it seems like you're finally getting things figured out and getting on top of stuff, things really go wrong. I mean, it's not really that bad. Just financially. It's no fun. We're all in good health, we have a few christmas presents, we always have enough food and Derek is finally finished with his finals! I get a whole 3 weeks!

Ok, thats from last week. But I didn't get a chance to take a picture at the time, so Derek's cousin took it. It was at a family Thanksgiving we had. So, I did dress up. It's just late now.

So, 20 down. 10 to go. At this rate I'll hopefully be done by the 14th. I have 2 more bigger things to dress up for in that time, so yay!

When it rains it pours. Derek went to the dentist and found out he has to have a root canal. And our insurance won't cover it. And I have an appointment on January 7th and I'm afraid it's going to be the same thing for me. It's going to cost thousands. And now our car is having electrical problems. Our headlights won't work even after we replaced them. So now we have to take it into the shop Monday. It seems like every time we get on track, paying off our debts, something always comes up that puts us back to the beginning. What's the point of paying your insurance monthly if when you need it they won't pay up? Money grubbers.

It's not all bad though. Big news is Jonah's now been sleeping through the night for the last week! All by himself. Not asleep when I lay him down and he just goes to sleep and then wakes up in the morning. It's been a blessing and relief. Do you know what this means? He's no longer kicking me in the back in the middle of the night. I have time to myself at night and don't have to worry about him waking up and having to get him back to sleep. I can get a babysitter and Derek and I can go on actual dates, late into the night.

Day 17: Wednesday December 1st, 2010

So, here's what I've learned so far during the 30 for 30: I need more heels, more pants (cords, trousers, etc); next time I need to use all of my cardigans, this time I thought there would be too many. There's more, but now I can't find the paper where I wrote it down when I was thinking about it. And you'll see that throughout, most of my stuff was bought this year. The reason for that is after having a baby, my size has changed completely. It's difficult for me to buy new things when I'm at a size I don't want to be and I don't know how long I'm going to be that size. I'm replenishing my wardrobe after having to give a lot of my smaller things away. And I loved those clothes! I know it sounds silly, but I had a good wardrobe. A lot of basic items, but lots of fun ones too for flare. I miss them. Some of them I still have, but most are now gone. And it's hard to replenish with a very limited budget and with me not being the only one needing clothes. If you don't have a toddler you have no idea how fast they grow.

We've been contemplating getting one for a while. Thinking we would get one as our christmas present to each other. And we wandered around Best Buy friday morning and saw that it was going for $170 we couldn't get it out of our minds. So saturday night we went on a whim and bought it. And Derek loves Mario, so we went for the red one. Jonah likes to play with the nunchuk and it makes him feel like he's playing along too.

Hey guys! I've been super busy with the holiday weekend, helping make food for the 2 Thanksgivings we had. One thursday with good friends, and one again today with Derek's dad's side of the family. Making cheesecake, cake, green bean casserole (twice), and a turkey. Going to a few Black Friday Deals. New shoes for Jonah, Graywhale for Derek, Michael's for me. I love these tights and am sad about the holes. They are officially in the garbage now. But every time I wore them, they got about 2 runs in them anyway. And one of my friends at church was wearing the exact same skirt as me yesterday. Funny. We know we have the same skirt, so its bound to happen. We got a lot of comments on that.

And it has officially started snowing here. Starting this last weekend. I'm always anticipating it coming, but once it actually gets here I can't wait for spring to come. Although it also makes me want to decorate the house for Christmas. But I usually wait until at least after Thanksgiving. Nothing fancy. Just the tree and a nativity.

Clean up, clean up

Derek and I had a rigorous day of clean up. We organized, moved furniture around. I now have my own craft/sewing desk! My own place to put things. Derek got himself a drafting table, so I got the desk he was using and now have my own place. First project, curtains for the kitchen! I have this amazing fabric(I'm pretty sure it's vintage)that I got from Grandma Jolley's house after she passed away.

Anyway, it's hard enough as a stay at home mom finding reasons to dress up. But especially when you're having a cleaning day. But I did manage to get dressed for the few errands I ran today. Not dressed up, but dressed. Don't expect too much :)

Also, I had some luck at the grocery store. I was able to get all this:
For $3.72. It was $0.88 for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch and $1.49 for the Cocoa Puffs after buying 4. I had a $2/3 boxes of General Mills Cereal. So all that cereal cost me $2.13. That's just over $0.50 a box. The milk was $0.99 a gallon, limit 2, so I bought two and didn't even have to give up my coupon. I'll be using it again soon, you can believe that. The mozzarella was $4.29. And I had a $7 rewards, which I did not have to spend $700 to get. I love coupons. So after taxes and coupons, $3.72. It always makes me feel good when I can do that. Yay me!

Bella Italia is amazing! I always try and make it a point to go when I'm in town. And it's always incredible! And it's always fun to go with Charlotte because she introduced me to it Valentine's Day 2007 or so. We had no boyfriends, no dates, so we went out with each other. And it's one of the best Valentine's days of my life.

This is actually a screen shot from a video I took. And I didn't notice it until I was showing Derek all the pictures and things and he's the one who pointed it out.

But it's only until this saturday. Then I'll be back home to all my clothes. And I'm afraid I'll do all the easy, basic stuff first. And then run out of ideas. Uh-oh. Halloween!

Festive Halloween french toast! We had some pumpkin bread (just the look, not the flavor) soup bowls we've had in our freezer from Great Harvest from last season. And I honestly don't love eating soup out of them. So we've been making sandwiches out of them and were able to make some delicious french toast out of it in the spirit of the season!

And Jonah loved it with the nutella and syrup on top

Jonah was dressed up as Babe the Blue Ox. I made the jumpsuit myself and just had to show you the back with the tail

All of us dressed up together. Derek is Paul Bunyon, Jonah is Babe the Blue Ox, and I am the Tree. There's Derek chopping me down!

We went to our wards trunk or treat and then after went to a friends house to help pass out candy. All in all, it was a good night. And Jonah really had a good time trick or treating. He wasn't shy about reaching in to the candy bowl to get what he wanted. It just keeps getting more fun as he gets older.

Grandpa!

Jonah has learned how to say it. And not just say it, but identify who grandpa is. It's so cute.

Derek and I got a chance to have a birthday date. Thanks to mom and dad's birthday money and babysitting, we were able to go get lunch at Sonora Grill and then go to the temple. If you haven't been there, you should get it on that. Seriously, so good! Derek got the Flautas and I got the Achiote Chicken. We also have the Ogden High Football Dining card which has a coupon for a free appetizer with 2 entrees, so we got the Chicken Chilaquiles, which would have been meal enough. I should have taken pictures of everything, but the best I got was the leftovers.

And I told the waiter it was Derek's birthday and he got us a free sundae. Just vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, but when it's homemade it's just delicious. This place is locally operated and owned, they buy local produce and products for their menu, so everything they make is only if it's in season. They don't even have a freezer in the back!

Rough days...

...deserve a treat.

I haven't mentioned this yet, but I am on my no sweets diet this season again. I started the beginning of the month and have already had my 2 treat days of the month. But after today, I needed something. I agreed to baby-sit for a woman in my ward today. She has a little girl around 7 or 8 months. To tell you the truth I'm not entirely sure how old she is. I also needed to make a cheesecake for Derek's birthday tomorrow. Which is what is pictured above (recipe here) so yummy! It was fine when she first got here, but then she got upset, so I had to pick her up. Jonah got jealous and started screaming for me too. They would feed off of each other's sadness so I just had to hold both of them and walk around, because the little girl didn't like it when I sat down. I was only supposed to watch her from 2:30-4:30 PM. Her mom dropped her off a little after 2 and didn't get back until 6. This was her first work meeting, and she told me she might be a little late. They both fell asleep and Jonah just kept getting warmer and warmer. I think he might be getting sick. Don't tell the mom! To sum it all up, it was not the experience I was expecting! So I cheated. It made me feel better. Now I need to set up for Derek's birthday tomorrow.

This is from my mom's camera when she visited in August. I'm just getting these pictures up now! So sorry!

I've been crocheting a lot! And giving them as presents. A lot of baby showers. The blanket is for my sister's new baby. I'm so proud of it! The nicest thing I've ever made yet. She doesn't look at my blog, so I'm safe until I see her in 2 weeks!

Food! For some reason whenever I put text into Picasa it doesn't save it in the collage. So we got a whole bunch of tomatoes from Mom and Dad's garden while they were out of town for 2 weeks, so I was able to make Bruschetta (the sourdough I got from my visiting teacher who works at Great Harvest. Thanks!) and then pizza the next night. Both were delicious! I've never made anything as fancy as Bruschetta before. And I'm excited about the results.

Clothing Exchange!!

When I was at the Davis Campus for yoga the other day, I saw a sign on the billboards for a clothing exchange. It's October 23rd (2 saturdays from now) from 10 AM-1 PM. It doesn't say anything about bringing a set amount of clothes to be admitted or anything like that, so I say just go. Bring stuff if you have it, that's the nice thing to do. They'll also serve refreshments. I wasn't able to find any more information on the website, but if I do, I'll post updates. I'm planning on being there!

I knew I would get some curiousness about my "surprise" and I did get a text from Becky asking if I was pregnant. But no, I'm not. My sister, Beka, had her baby!!! I wasn't allowed to say anything until she did, but I'm so excited! Mostly because she had a little boy. She kept telling people she was having a girl and how she could just tell, but she had a boy. Which makes me laugh. He is so cute! 8 lbs 21 inches and born at home in 3 hours! Lucky girl. So, congrats Beka and Nathan. Good luck choosing a name (they're thinking of Isaiah). You guys are amazing.

3rd Anniversary (and more)

Derek and I celebrated our third year anniversary yesterday. It was a monday, so kind of an awkward day for it. We've done a little bit of celebrating so far. The week before we went to Chili's and the friday before we had a wonderful salmon dinner with friends. I made steak fajitas for dinner and flan for dessert! I've never made flan before so it was more time consuming than I expected, so we didn't get to eat it last night, but today Derek will give it a try (I started my no sugar/treats diet yesterday). On that, I need to find some good sugar/chocolate craving ideas that I can eat on my non-treat days. Derek and I both did this last year and I thought it was a genius idea during the holidays! I still get my treat days, so I can eat pie and cheesecake on Thanksgiving and Christmas and candy on halloween.

Speaking of Halloween, Derek and I have officially (I think) decided to be Paul Bunyan (him) Babe the Blue Ox (Jonah) and Tree (me). So we need blue clothes for Jonah, suspenders and work boots for Derek and a green dress for me.

Sunday talk

Last week, they asked me to speak in sacrament meeting. It's the first time Derek or I have spoke in the new ward and any speaking assignment makes me nervous. And I had to teach the sunday school lesson today. It was my turn. But I think everything went well. And Derek said I did a good job and I got a few compliments. They might have been saying it because they felt they had too, but I'm ok with that. Not the best talk I've given, but still good.

There are some improvisation that I made while speaking, so those aren't in here, but this is the general idea.

Applying the Words of the Prophets in Our Own Lives

I’d first like to start out with a scripture: D&C 21:4-5. (4 Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; 5 For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.)
Our prophets are a direct link to God. He speaks to us through them. We give heed unto his words, because they are the words of the Lord given to us. Also in Amos 3:7 it says: Surely the Lord God will do nothing, abut he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Derek and I teach Sunday School for the youth and a few weeks ago we had a lesson on Amos. And something interesting that was pointed out in the manual is the Joseph Smith Translation, as it changes the word “but” to “until”. Listen again to it (read again with word changes) It gives the verse a whole new meaning. It’s also an example of taking the Prophets words and applying them. I think one thing we can take from that scripture is that God tells his Prophets of what’s to come and to have them relay that message to us, in ancient times and now in Latter-Days. He gives us warnings and hope and faith and comfort through those appointed men. And they tell us, through General Conference, through the Friend, the Ensign, and the New Era, and many other ways as well. It’s up to us to apply the things he tells us. Which is faith. And as we know in James 2:20 it says 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Applying the words of the Prophets in our lives is the work we have to do to make the faith alive.

Sometimes it’s hard to follow the counsel given to us. In Early Lessons on Following the Prophet by Guy L. Dorius from the April 2001 Ensign it says: The cares of the world are very real to those who accept the message of a living prophet. Prophetic teachings often run counter to the popular notions and ideas of the day. It’s sometimes a challenge and a risk to go against the views of the world. Things can very easily disguised as something that’s “not that bad” when in truth it’s much more of a challenge and risk to heed the words and counsel of the Prophets. That same talk given by Guy L Dorius also says: Others found it more difficult to follow the Prophet, and their names have quickly faded from Church history. They gave heed, but only to a point, then something happened in their association with Joseph or he asked of them something they thought was beyond his purview. Their lukewarm obedience led to their separation from the kingdom of God. Many of these early members faced immense challenges, and we should be cautious not to make harsh judgments, yet the examples of these individuals who fell away from the gospel in the New York and Kirtland periods provide insights on following living prophets. We CANNOT be only “lukewarm obedient”. We have to have full trust in the Prophets and their words because those words come straight from God. We follow them to the best of our ability, whole-heartedly and without restraint! I know it is easier to do so during times like General Conference when we are immersed in their words for 2 days. And when their wonderful talks and insight are with us for some time after. But we must pursue their words and teachings always. We can do so by reading the church publications. They have a magazine for every stage in life. Childhood, youth, and adulthood. We can listen to our Bishopric, listen to our Sunday School teachers, our Seminary and Institute teachers, our Home and Visiting Teachers, our Relief Society and Elders Quorum and Young Womens and Primary Presidencies. What a lucky people we are to be able to have all these wonderful people in our lives to guide us and help show us the way. I think we can say it is rare in modern times as a people to receive such an incredible gift. They are an example of God’s love for us. To show us that he loves us and cares for us, he bring such amazing people to us.
I’ve taken some time talking about modern-day prophets and how we receive their words, but another way is through the ancient prophets in the scriptures. Sometimes it seems as you read them, it may be hard to apply their message to our latter-day lives and trials. But history repeats itself. And 1st Nephi 19:23 proves that they can help us, no matter the year or century or generation. It says: 23 And I did read many things unto them which were written in the books of Moses; but that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophet Isaiah; for I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning. And to quote the talk Likening the Scriptures to Our Personal Lives in the March 2009 Ensign: An institute teacher who helped his class liken the scriptures to themselves related the following: “I wanted my students to see that even though the scriptures were written long ago, they can provide inspiration for our modern-day dilemmas. I asked them to think about a current challenge they were facing. I then assigned them to read silently a chapter in Moroni, looking for something that could help them with their challenge. After they had studied quietly for 10 minutes, I asked them to raise their hand if they found a verse that helped them. I was pleased, and I think they were amazed, to see that almost everyone had. Likening the scriptures to our personal lives leads to inspiration about the questions or concerns we encounter today. If I had the chance to ask you as a congregation the same thing today I’m positive I would see a good show of hands from you.

I know I’ve received the answers for questions from the ancient prophets in the scriptures, and through the modern prophets today. I know that I need to have the faith to apply them in my life and make them come alive through works. I know that we all do our best and that’s all that has been asked of us. I love this ward and the spirit I feel here every week. I’m grateful to be in a place I can feel that and I hope to leave the same impact on you today.

As you know, I am a big fan of fashion blogs. I'm always posting about giveaways and the like and while looking for pictures for my last "Shopgirl" post I stumbled on The Glamorous Grad Student and have fallen in love! I feel like most fashion blogs I go to tell you how to dress, what's in style, what you should have, etc. And I don't want to be told. I want to figure it out for myself. She came up with this whole questionnaire about your fashion wants and inspirations. I sometimes feel like the society of the place I live in is only accepting of certain kinds of style and fashion and that has been bugging me lately. I feel like I'm dressing towards their expectation instead of my own and I want to find my own style again. Be comfortable in my own clothes and skin. Not have to conform to the ideas everyone else has. So I printed out this little questionnaire and filled it out and I'm going to post it on here. Just to have something for me to look back on to remind myself what I really want and not get sidetracked.

Part One: Wardrobe Practicalities
This section is for reflecting the unique wardrobe needs of your individual lifestyle.

* You get up in the morning and open your closet to start getting dressed. What do you want people to think about you and your style? What's the best compliment you could get? I want to look crisp and put together. Simple, classic, but interesting and unique. Adventurous! Contrasting colors and fabrics.

* What do you feel are the problems with your style at the moment? I feel like a frump mom most of the time. I feel like I don't have the options I want, that my style isn't fun like it used to be. I have a lot of my old clothes that don't fit or flatter my body anymore after having a baby.

* On a normal day, what sort of situations are ahead of you? Do any of them have dress codes or particular style needs? I'm a mom. I need something comfortable and wearable and washable. I'm a jeans and a t-shirt lady. I need something modest. And for sundays I want to dress up when I get the opportunity.

* What are the most versitile (most-worn) items in your closet? Cardigans for layering. V-neck solid t-shirt. Tanktops for layering. My skinny jeans.

* What were the biggest shopping mistakes, things you barely wore or never even took the tag off. Heels! I spent $80 on these gorgeous sating Nine West heels 3 years ago and probably only wore them half a dozen times. I like the way they look on other people and how they make my legs look sexy, but I'm much more comfortable in a cute flat. Even possibly a wedge.

* Is there a dream outfit you often wish you had, when you stare into your closet in the morning? I don't have an outfit, but I'd like a few key pieces for different seasons. I want a jersey skirt for summer to wear with sandals and a t-shirt, I want boots for fall to wear with skinny jeans and cute skirts and tights, a military style long winter coat and cute sandals for spring. I think if I had a few cute pieces for everyday stuff I could work around that.

Part Two: Wardrobe Glee
This section is for exploring you feel best wearing.

* What was/is your favourite outfit ever, as in an outfit which filled you with glee, confidence and other fun things? Describe it and your feelings about it as fully as possible. My high school graduation dress. It took me forever to find! I was looking for just the right thing. It was beautiful and yellow and floral. Cute empire waist and gathered bust. Made me feel bright and sunny and confident. Wish I still had it. But even if I did I couldn't fit into it anyway.

* What was the worst outfit ever, as in an outfit you were unhappy in from the moment you put it on... As in, if wild dogs had ripped it off you and destroyed it you'd have given them a leg of ham in gratitude. So many instances in high school trying to be different and adventurous just ended up looking disastrous! But at least I tried

* What parts of your body are you happiest about and happiest showing off? I like my collarbones and my chest. Always wanted big boobs and now I have them. I also like my calves and ankles

* Are there parts of your body you'd rather not focus on? Please don't think you should hide any part of your body or be ashamed of it (because you shouldn't be!), but if there are things you don't want to highlight, that's ok to admit. My tummy and thighs I don't like. Would not like to showcase those.

* What are your feelings towards colour and pattern? I love them! Bright colors and cute patterns are so fun and make things so much more interesting.
o Which colours do you find yourself wearing day-to-day? Floral, lots of stripes. Blue & grey a lot
o Which colours fill you with glee and confidence to wear? (Is there overlap between your day-to-day and your filled-with-glee colours?) Purple, yellow, corals one of my favorites so I'd like to get more cute things in that
o Do you like patterns? If so, which ones? Love patterns! I like floral and stripes, herringbone and I like chevron, but that seems more friendly to decoration

Part Three: Wardrobe Inspiration
This section is for discovering the elements of your ideal style.

* Which famous person scores highest for style with you? Can be an actress, singer, politician, It-girl... Whoever appeals to you! Ellen Page, Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Gwen Stefani (minus all the midriffs)

* What are your favourite literary, movie and television characters, if style alone were the criteria? Mirabelle Buttersfield, Marla Singer, Betty Draper is classic

* Time and place can be so evocative. When and where would you love to live, just for the style? List up to three. 1940's London, 1960's, Maybe even a little Jane Austen time in there

* If money/shipping limitations/stupid sizing were not issues, what shops and designers would you go to for clothes? Anthropologie, J Crew, Banana Republic, Modcloth. I love forever 21 too! Anything that costs money is an issue when you don't have much of a budget to spend

Kohl's is a new love

I've only ever shopped at Kohl's maybe, once or twice before. And honestly, wasn't that impressed. But I signed up for their email newsletters and the first one they send you they basically give you $5. So I had occasion to shop! But I was pleasantly surprised by the brands, quality and styles. The accessories and shoes weren't great, but everything else was awesome! I ended up buying a beautiful Lauren Conrad cardigan.

Lately I have been in love with sequins. They're definitely not something I would normally buy, and that's mostly the appeal. I'm loving the girly details lately. Ruffles and sequins and bows and flowers. Loving it all! Almost bought a plain long sleeve grey crewneck. So glad I got this instead! Now it just needs to get cool enough to wear it.

Perfect chocolate cake! And more!

We have like 6 zucchini's (not kidding) in our house right now and Derek found a recipe for a chocolate zucchini cake with cream cheese chocolate frosting. And so I needed an occasion to make it, and tonight our ward is doing the last EQ BBQ of the summer. And I have to say it is atleast the prettiest cake I have ever made. I hope the yummiest too. Haven't tasted anything because that would ruin the prettiness! See, look!

Then I added powdered sugar. It needed something extra.

I have to wait to taste it until at least 6:30 tonight. And hope it doesn't wilt in the heat because there is no room in my fridge right now! And I need to transfer it to a prettier tray. Anyone know how to do that?

On another note, Jonah had his 18 month appointment today. 7% for weight, so he went up a percent since last appointment, which is a relief! Because if he stayed as he was they were probably going to make me change his diet. 55% for his head and something like 22% for height. My pediatrician says he's tiny, but perfect! Perfect. That's always what you want to hear about your child.

I got all of it for $41.32!! Most of it's from Smith's, but the John Frieda's from Rite-Aid (you're welcome, Feliz) I get a $5 rebate from Rite-Aid and I finally spent enough at Smith's that I'll be getting my $5 from them. So you could say I got $10 off. So 44 items for $31.32 is not bad at all! Everything is under a dollar if you count that. Some of the stuff on there I wasn't meaning to buy, like the Mountain Dew, but I got a free redbox for getting that one extra thing. So another $1.07 saved. There are 10 boxes of cereal there, but I'll be splitting them with my MIL. Her kids eat cereal. I just hope I got the right kinds. And another bonus is I got 10 cent fuel reward at Smith's and $2 on my +up card at Rite-Aid. Saving like this just makes me so happy and useful! It's nice to know you save more than you spend.

Project Runway

So, I've seen a few episodes here and there, but never really watched it consecutively. I've been following the blog Grosgrain, who sews her own clothes, does a bit of designing, so no wonder she's into it, but I've been reading her reviews and it made me curious, so I went to the mylifetime.com website and watched the 1st 4 episodes and I may now be obsessed. I netflixed all the first 7 seasons ([don't know when I'm going to watch them] anyone want to let me borrow them?) and will keep up with this one.

First, a disclaimer. I don't know how to sew or design, but I think I have a pretty good sense of every day style. Just today my cousin told me how much she loves it and when she dresses and looks in the mirror she thinks "would Aynna wear this?". HUGE brightener to my day! I think I've lost my touch a little, so it was nice to hear. Anyway, I just wanted to do my own review.

Let me just start off by saying, I was sad that McKell was kicked off first. I liked her dress. Yes, the styling was off, but the dress itself was very cute and now. She was from Layton, UT too. If she stayed on, we could have seemed so much cooler! But Jason and Nicholas both deserved to go in the 2nd episode. I'm not sure what they were doing. But why was Sarah kicked out instead of Casanova at the end of episode 3? He is so outdated and unoriginal. Ok, a little classic, but his dress was way worse than hers and she was just a lot more tolerable. And I know that not everyone likes Gretchen and I have to agree she's pretentious and annoying, but her designs are good. I would probably wear them myself. And Valerie. I love her designs! So modern and edgy. I love that Michael D works with knitted items that he makes himself. But honestly, I am so over the queens on that show. They cause more drama and are much more high maintenance than anyone else on the show.

Last episodes challenge was really cool. The hats were very editorial and beautiful. I don't think Michael C should have won, I liked Michael D's better, but they were both complimentary to the hats they had. Michael C's was good in the sense that it didn't overpower and it was a simple beautiful every day dress, with or without the hat. But Michael D's was a little more editorial and architectural which I think went well also. But I think his should have won for being a little more innovative. Ok, what's going on with Peach. So far I haven't loved anything of hers. She actually did the best with the unconventional challenge, but everything else she makes is older style, which doesn't work with the model she has and she isn't really bringing anything new to the table. And the hat dress combo she did, just didn't work at all to me. Ok, that's my rant so far. You'll hear more later as I continue watching the episodes.

Hair cut

I've been itching to cut Jonah's hair, but hadn't completely gotten the OK from Derek and have been too afraid to do it myself. But yesterday, I got the scissors from my MIL and just decided to go for it.

What do you think?

I know it isn't perfect, but if I touch it again, it'll just get shorter. I do think he looks more like a boy and more grown up, but I do miss his baby hair. So we decided we aren't going to cut it again until he's at least 3. It'll be nice and long by then!
