Hey, this happened to me!

Derek and I have been researching vaccines and whether or not we want to vaccinate this next baby, or at least be able to pick and choose which ones we want. And when expressing this to my current pediatrician, I was basically told that I should find someone else. Which sucks. So I'm on the look out right now for someone new. I've had a few recommendations and not so long to find one. Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because in my most recent Dr. Mercola email, they addressed this directly. So I wanted to share this article with you guys, if you were interested.

Should Pediatricians 'Fire' Patients Whose Parents Don't Vaccinate?

I spoke with six of the nurses I work with and all of them said the same thing. Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate. One of the nurses said, “Go to a third-world country that doesn’t have vaccinations and you’ll find all of the diseases that vaccinations prevent, then make your decision of whether you want to risk that with your baby”

Remember the measles outbreak in April. That is pretty scary, so if you’re going to pick and choose, I’d at least do the MMR.

Hollie had a student that wasn’t vaccinated in her class last year and anytime one of the other students came down with something he had to stay home. He missed the last two weeks of school (which is usually the best part) because another student got chicken pox. Sad huh?

Have you noticed any adverse side effects from Jonah’s vaccinations?

It is a touchy subject - but while I believe that everyone should have the right to choose... vaccines do save lives.

There are people too frail to get vaccines and the healthy people that do not vaccinate put those who cannot at great risk for being sick. Newborns are in this group - too young to vaccinate and if infected have high risk of death.

So while I agree that everyone should have the right to investigate and decide for them selves, it is also a doctors right to choose what risks he/she will bring into their office. I am sure there are doctors that would welcome you in their practice as well, and I think you would want a doctor who supports your decisions as well.
